On 12th March the Infants enjoyed a visit to a construction site, to complement their classroom project, ‘Buildings’.
While touring The Woodlands development at Shotley Bridge with Story Homes site manager Julian Bulman, the pupils were able to learn more about the bricks, stone, wood, cable, pipes and plasterboard used to build each house, as well as handling insulation sheets and hearing about sustainability. They were also able to watch a number of different trades at work, from plasterers and plumbers to roofers and bricklayers. Of course the cranes, diggers and dumper trucks were immensely popular!
The Story Homes mascot Builder Bear proved a big hit with the children too, as he accompanied them on their tour. One of the highlights of the morning was the opportunity for Matthew to be photographed with Builder Bear and his Dad, who works on the site. Also Meredith and Eden posed with the bear in front of their new home.
Everyone on the development worked extremely hard to accommodate the party and show them as much as was safely possible. It was a fabulous experience, blessed also with lots of sunshine!
Back in the classroom the children continue to enjoy our Building Site role play area with added insight and grand constructions!
